April 2010 - New GUNNAR GMC Software templates by Jared Davis

Jared Davis, Megawood's Gunnar product Manager, has recently created 35 brand new custom designed templates, which have been introduced into the new GUNNAR GMC software, Globally released in April 2010.

Jared says, “I’ve recently been learning the subtle art of “software programming in C#”, and for many years I’ve have numerous requests from GUNNAR CMC owners for custom templates, which could help simplify some of the regular mat cutting requirements and procedures for framers. So I’ve taken note of all of these, and finally been able to create my own personal collection of templates, which have now been incorporated into the GMC software for framers to use.”

He adds, “These designs are not just clip arts… they are completely customized, dimension-driven templates, and because they are based on real requests from framers, they are far more relevant and usable for framing requirements, rather than the typical, unpopular template shapes like “love hearts”, “stars” and “hexagons”. My new skills in software programming, can now also allow me to be able to create a special custom template design for any Gunnar CMC owner, should they have a specific need or requirement.”

Some of the new template designs are genuine “world firsts” – and include completely customised NRL & AFL jersey templates (because every jersey is a different size!); completely customised “Cricket Bat” template, plus some traditional art deco and emulated hand carve designs, which were influenced from genuine hand carved mat designs obtained from framing jobs from the early 1900’s.

After receiving a Fine Art Trade Guild award in 2007 for innovating the concept of debossing and scoring with the Gunnar T1, and the recent Professional Picture Framers Association Award for “Recognition for Innovation” in Las Vegas, the Gunnar F1 Hybrid has now won the exclusive gold SMAC “Innovation Award” at the recent SMAC show, held in Paris in March.

The Gunnar F1 Hybrid’s revolutionary automatic changing 45° and 90° cutting head, combined with fully automatic blade depth adjustment, is being globally recognised as “the next dimension” in CMC technology. March 2009 - GUNNAR receives PPFA "Recognition for Innovation" Award

This month, at the Professional Picture Framers Association annual awards ceremony in Las Vegas (at the PMA show), Andreas Weissenberger, the owner & inventor of GUNNAR CMC’s, was awarded the rare and prestigious “Recognition for Innovation” award from the PPFA – for pioneering the innovative concept of the “CMC” in the early nineties.

PPFA Award of Recognition for Innovation: individual who is directly responsible for a concept or product that has become a significant factor in the picture framing industry; who has made a drastic impact on the industry through his/her innovative development or pioneering efforts; and who has significantly contributed to the advancement of the framing industry.

This award is not given every year, as it is rare – and historically only awarded to industry pioneers. Previous recipients of this award include:

  • 2008 Frank Chavez (pioneer of the concept of “fabric wrapped” mats)

  • 2005 Vicki Schober (invented the concept of “Bevel Accents”)

  • 1999 Vivian Kistler, CPF, GCF (educational legend!)

  • 1989 Greg Fremstad (Invented Framespace)

  • 1987 Helmar Nielsen (Pioneer of Aluminium Moulding)

  • 1986 Antoine Cassesse (invented the world’s first v-shaped wedge, and the concept of “the underpinner”)

  • 1983 William B Keeton (pioneer of the “tabletop matcutter”)

Apart from inventing the world's first CMC, Andreas (and GUNNAR) has also continually released more “world first” CMC innovations than any other industry specific brand of CMC around the globe.

We have put together a timeline of GUNNAR's unique, pioneering achievements in CMC development for our industry: have a closer look at this impressive list of GUNNAR "world firsts" here.

When you combine this award, with GUNNAR’s recent “Innovation Award” award from the Fine Art Trade Guild in 2007 for the GUNNAR T1 debossing tool head concept, this now makes GUNNAR the number one, most “awarding winning” CMC manufacturer in the industry.

Something to truly be proud of. Congratulations Andreas, and GUNNAR.
